Fast Forw(ART)China's burgeoning art scene

They come from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, and are pushing the boundaries of international art in Asia. The seven finalists of the inaugural HUGO BOSS ASIA ART Award, to be presented in October in Shanghai, have been chosen. They are all part of a promising young generation of artists who grew up amidst rapid economic, political and cultural upheaval in China. With the HUGO BOSS PRIZE, HUGO BOSS in cooperation with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, has long been active in the international contemporary art scene. While the HUGO BOSS PRIZE is awarded to up and coming artists of various art genres, the company wants to specifically promote the formation of the HUGO BOSS ART ASIA Awards for aspiring Asian artists and provide them with an additional cross-border platform.

Hsu Chiawei: The Temple on the Island

The prize will be awarded every two years in collaboration with the prestigious Rockbund Art Museum (RAM) in Shanghai. A rotating jury, consisting of renowned museum curators, collectors and connoisseurs of the art scene have nominated a shortlist of seven artists, who are currently presenting their work in a group exhibition in the RAM from September 13 to December 8, 2013. The winner will then be selected by the jury from the entire collection of pieces in this exhibition.
